The issue of climate change at the national and international level is an
important issue since it has a direct impact on society in the event of a crisis
of food security which results in crop failure. Climate change which is erratic
with an increasing level of climatic diversity require awareness of researchers,
government, and stakeholders to maintain agricultural sustainability.
Responding to these issues, researchers are obliged to provide scientific input
as a reference for the government in making policies related to climate change.
Researchers are also initiators in spreading and transforming the knowledge
and skills needed to deal with impacts of climate change.
The management handling of climate change is also directly linked to
local knowledge applied in the society. The enforcement of prohibitions
(things that are considered taboo or mystical) by communities could be used
to reduce the impact of climate change, such as Nyabuk Gunung in Java,
which aims to prevent erosion and landslides due to logging forest. Another
example is the prohibition of cutting down forests in East Sumba Regency
unless preceded by ritual worship of Marapu. This local knowledge could be
used by researchers, government, and other agencies as a mean to socialize
efforts to prevent climate change and at the same time preserving tradition
that has been prevailed in the local community.
